Fire Safety Alert! Nashik to Take Strict Action Against Non-Compliant Buildings

Nashik News: As per the provisions of the Fire Prevention Measures Act, a fire audit is mandatory for every building in Nashik . The Municipal Corporation’s fire department has taken a strict stand to take action against buildings that do not comply with these provisions. The concerned establishments have been given a deadline of February 28, 2025 to submit the fire audit report and certificate of compliance with fire prevention measures. After that, the department has warned of cutting off the water and electricity supply of buildings that do not have a fire audit and sealing the entire building.

The Maharashtra Fire Prevention and Life-Saving Measures Act 2006 and the amended Act 2023 and Rules 2009 have been implemented in the state since 2008. According to its provisions, it is mandatory to take fire prevention measures in accordance with the use of various types of offices, establishments and buildings and to submit a certificate that the relevant measures are correct and efficient, i.e. fire audit report, twice a year. Accordingly, the Fire Prevention Department has warned of cutting off the electricity and water supply of establishments that do not comply with fire prevention measures and sealing the building. Even after taking such action, a cognizable and non-cognizable offence will be registered against the owners and occupants of buildings and establishments who do not submit fire prevention measures and relevant certificates. This offence carries a provision for competent imprisonment from six months to three years and a fine of Rs 20,000 to Rs 50,000.
